Tool taper - Morse taper is one of the most widely used tool mounts. It was proposed by Stephen A. Morse around 1864.

Morse taper is divided into eight sizes- from KM0 to KM7 (in English: MT0-MT7, in German: MK0-MK7).

Morse taper standards: GOST 25557 (Tool cones. Main dimensions), ISO 296, DIN 228. Cones made according to inch and metric standards are interchangeable in everything except the shank thread.

For many applications, the length of the Morse cone turned out to be excessive. Brief description of the design and operation of the NS-12B desktop drilling machine

The machine consists of the following main parts: plate 1; column 2; trunk with spindle group 3; electrical equipment 8.

On the stove shoe 11 is fixed, in the hole of which column 2 is installed. Column secured by tightening the shoe.

Along the perimeter of the plate there is a trench for collecting coolant. At the bottom of the chute there is a drain hole with a plug. When connecting the machine to a centralized supply of emulsion, instead of a plug, a nipple with a rubber hose can be wrapped.

A step-down transformer and a package switch housing (for local lighting) are mounted inside the plate, and a push-button station is installed outside (for the machine’s electric motor).

On the trunk spindle group 5, electric motor 8 with plate and tensioner 10 for the V-belt are fixed.

From the electric motor, using a V-belt drive through a five-speed pulley, the machine spindle connected to it by means of keys (and sliding along them) is driven into rotation.

When handle 5 (Fig. 6) is turned, gear 2 (Fig. 4) rotates, which moves rack 1 and the sleeve associated with it up and down.

The sleeve, moving in the cavity of the trunk, moves up and down the spindle, connected to the sleeve by angular contact ball bearings.

The vertical movement of the trunk is carried out by the action of gear 4 (Fig. 4), driven into rotation by handle 4 (Fig. 6), on rack 3 (Fig. 4), mounted on the column.

If necessary, it is possible to rotate the column together with the trunk around its axis after loosening the clamp of the shoe in which the column is secured.

The belt guard casing is either cast or welded (extended).

Design of the NS16 machine

Structurally, the NS-16 machine is mounted on a cast plate 1, on which a stand 2 with a rail 3 is fixed.

The traverse 4 is moved along the rack using the rack and pinion shaft 11. The traverse 4 is protected from spontaneous movement of the traverse along the rack, the pressure of which is adjusted by screw 8. The traverse 4 contains a spindle assembly, consisting of the spindle itself 23 and the quill 24.

The lower end of the spindle 23 is secured through bearings in the quill 24 using a nut 25 (with a left-hand thread), a ring 26 and an oil seal 27. The upper splined end of the spindle 23 is connected to the belt drive pulley 20 through a sleeve 21. The sleeve 21 is installed with the possibility of rotation through bearings in the cup 22, rigidly mounted on the crossbeam 4.

The quill 24, under the influence of the gear shaft 16, moves through the handles 17 in the traverse. The amount of movement is reported using dial 18. The return of the quill 24 with the spindle to the upper position is carried out under the influence of the spring 15, which at its inner end is connected to the gear shaft 16, and at the outer end to the cover 14, which is locked through a key on the traverse 4.

On the traverse 4 there are mounted, with the ability to move under the influence of the screw 9, a slide 6 with an electric motor 12.

The electrical equipment block 13 contains an automatic switch and a magnetic starter.

The remote control 10, mounted on the traverse 4, contains the “Start” and “Stop” buttons.

The casing 5 of the V-belt drive consists of two removable parts, secured to the traverse using wing nuts 19. To transfer the belt to the required stage of the pulleys, it is enough to remove one of the parts of the casing.

Operation of the NS16 machine

Turn on the machine to the network using the switch in block 13; after starting the machine, the black button turns on the electric motor 12. From the electric motor, rotation through a V-belt drive, closed by a casing 5, is transmitted to the spindle in the quill 24.

The quill moves when the gear shaft 16 rotates using the handle 17.

The vertical movement during drilling is measured along dial 18.

Tool taper - Morse taper is one of the most widely used tool mounts. It was proposed by Stephen A. Morse around 1864.

Morse taper is divided into eight sizes- from KM0 to KM7 (in English: MT0-MT7, in German: MK0-MK7).

Morse taper standards: GOST 25557 (Tool cones. Main dimensions), ISO 296, DIN 228. Cones made according to inch and metric standards are interchangeable in everything except the shank thread.

For many applications, the length of the Morse cone turned out to be excessive. Therefore, a standard was introduced for nine standard sizes of shortened Morse cones (B7, B10, B12, B16, B18, B22, B24, B32, B45), these dimensions were obtained by removing the thicker part of the cone. The number in the designation of a short cone is the diameter of the thick part of the cone in mm.

The spindle head is based on a cast iron body. The housing contains a spindle assembly, a headstock lifting mechanism, a belt tensioning mechanism and local lighting of the machine.

An electric motor is attached to the back of the headstock.

The headstock lifting mechanism is designed to move the spindle headstock along the column.

The column is attached to the plate with a bracket. The column is clamped in the bracket with two bolts. If it is necessary to rotate the column around its axis, the bolts are released, the column together with the headstock is rotated to the required position, after which the bolts are clamped.

The spindle assembly is mounted in housing 8. The spindle 1 itself is mounted in sleeve 4 on ball bearings 3 and 7.

The spindle receives rotation from sleeve 9 and pulley 10 through a splined connection.

Spindle feed - manual; is carried out by rotating the steering wheel using a gear roller 6 and a sleeve with a rack 4.
