Ideas for New Year's decoration of a wooden wine box. Decoupage of a cardboard box, wine box and plastic container. Available blank: decoupage box

Decoupage is good because it allows you to give a second life to any old item. Using this technique, an ordinary shoe box can be turned into a box for storing jewelry and spices, or, decorated with bright pictures, it can be turned into a storage box for children's toys and creativity kits. Such homemade boxes will fit perfectly into an interior with an open storage system and will become a highlight of any modern design.

Various containers for storing bulk products are quite expensive, but you can make a beautiful box for cookies, sweets or tea with your own hands using decoupage. It’s not for nothing that decoupage is called the napkin technique, because this method of decorating products requires beautiful napkins, decoupage cards or pictures printed on a sheet of paper.

The choice of pictures for decorating the box must be approached responsibly, because they must be combined with each other and with the surrounding interior.

If you decide to take a drawing with one storyline, then the other images located on this box should be executed in the same theme.

Some tips for decorating napkin boxes:

  1. Napkins with images of cartoon characters or pets are suitable for a children's room.
  2. Men will be pleased with a box with images of weapons and cars. As a gift to a loved one, it is better to choose a box made of wood rather than cardboard.
  3. You can give your grandmother or mother a round box decorated with photographs of family and friends.
  4. For the kitchen, a cardboard box decorated with images of vegetable or fruit dishes is suitable. You can decorate your spice box by printing onions or garlic on a piece of paper.
  5. It is better to store needles and threads in tin or plastic containers, hand-decorated with thematic motifs.

Whatever design you choose, a shoebox decorated with napkins will look stylish and unusual. With a little imagination, you can create a real masterpiece that will be an excellent gift that speaks of your love.

Tools and materials for decoupage boxes

Before you start decorating any product, you will have to prepare some tools and materials. They can be bought in specialized or office supply stores.

Materials and tools that may be needed to decoupage the box:

  • Actually the box itself, it can be metal, plastic, wood or old shoes.
  • Acrylic paints;
  • Glue (if the box is cardboard, you can use regular PVA, in other cases it is better to purchase special decoupage glue).
  • Printouts or napkins with pictures;
  • Decoupage or parquet varnish;
  • Soft brushes for painting boxes with paint;
  • Hard brushes for applying glue and varnish;
  • Sponge;
  • File;
  • Container with warm water;
  • Priming;
  • Sandpaper;
  • Additional decorative elements.

Here is a minimum set of items that may be useful for decoupaging a box with your own hands. All additional materials will have to be purchased during the creative process.

Decoupage spice box using printout method

For this method, it is better to use plywood blanks, since during the implantation process the cardboard base may delaminate. However, if you work very carefully, you can also decorate a shoe box with decoupage and implantation of a printout.

In addition to the technique given here for implanting a printout “with its face into the varnish,” there is another method: transferring the design to the product using a hot iron.

This technique may seem too complicated for beginner decoupage artists, but if you follow all the steps carefully, you will be pleased with the result.

Master class for beginners on decorating a box using the technique of implanting printouts:

  1. Sand the box with sandpaper.
  2. Apply a thin layer of primer, white acrylic paint or stain to its surface and let it dry.
  3. On top of the primer we apply several layers of acrylic paint of the main color. Let the boxes dry thoroughly. This step does not need to be completed if you used stain to decorate the box.
  4. We apply several layers of acrylic varnish or special adhesive varnish to the printed motif. We cover the places where the design will be implanted with a thin layer of the same composition and until it dries, we lower the varnished image with its face into the varnish. We leave this structure in this position until it dries completely.
  5. The next day, generously moisten the printout with water and begin to roll all the paper off the product. When you think there is no more paper on the image, dry it with a hairdryer and you will see a white coating, you need to get rid of that too.
  6. When only a bright image remains on the product, fill in the missing details with acrylic paint.
  7. Open the box with several layers of varnish and leave it until completely dry.

Despite the apparent complexity of this technique, even a beginner can handle it, the main thing is to follow the described sequence of actions exactly.

Wine box: decoupage

If you want to give your friend a bottle of good wine for the New Year, a tastefully decorated box using decoupage technique will help complement the gift. You can take a ready-made wooden slatted blank or use a regular box of butt boots to make it.

Decorating wine boxes using decoupage technique step by step:

  • We process the box with sandpaper;
  • We remove dust from the workpiece and degrease it using a cotton pad soaked in alcohol;
  • We cover the outer part of the box with several layers of primer, paying special attention to the lids;
  • We treat the inner part with stain;
  • Paint the outside of the wine box with a mixture of blue, pink and green paint;
  • We separate the top layer of the napkin or decoupage card and tear out the motif we need;
  • Soak it on the file in a small amount of liquid and transfer it to the surface of the base;
  • Lubricate the picture with glue, straightening it along the box with a hard brush.
  • We complete the missing elements;
  • We decorate the box with gold leaf;
  • We cover the product with several layers of varnish.

All that remains is to put a bottle of wine in the box and the gift in the original style is ready. There is no shame in exhibiting such a product at the crafts fair in Ukraine.

Plastic box: decoupage

From an unnecessary round jar of salad or mayonnaise, you can make a great box for storing candy, a mixture of spices or craft supplies.

Decoupage can be combined with other, no less interesting techniques, such as kanzashi.

For such a craft, you will not have to buy a lot of materials, and therefore there will be no large costs.

Master class on decorating a plastic box:

  • Cut out four circles equal to the diameter of the box from white glossy paper;
  • Cover the entire surface of the plastic jar with primer;
  • Glue circles on both sides of the bottom and lid;
  • We prime the side surface of the box and cover it with a strip of decoupage napkin with a pattern you like;
  • We decorate the lid of the box with an artificial flower, which you can buy in a store or make yourself from ribbons and corrugated paper;
  • We paint the empty spaces in a color that matches the decor and varnish them.

Such a simple box will become a real decoration of the kitchen space.

We make decoupage of shoe boxes with our own hands

A shoebox can serve as storage for spices, cereals or tea bags. To make it fit harmoniously into the interior of the kitchen, it can be decorated using decoupage.

We decorate a shoe box with napkins:

  1. We glue all the joints in the corners of the box with pieces of paper or masking tape.
  2. Cover the workpiece with white primer. Let it dry. Sand the product. Repeat these three steps at least three times.
  3. Paint the box in the main color.
  4. Separate the top layer with the pattern from the napkins. And having thickly smeared it with glue, glue the pattern onto the surface of the base. We iron the sides and the lid of the box through gauze so that the glue dries faster and you can proceed to the next stage.
  5. We fill in the missing elements with paint, and use brown paint applied to a sponge to age the edges of the box.
  6. We cover the product with 3-4 layers of varnish.

If you apply a little imagination, then in a very short period of time, you can make a beautiful and necessary thing out of an object that, it would seem, should be thrown into the trash.

Hello everyone, dear blog readers!

What if you give your friends or relatives a bottle of good wine? An excellent present for any occasion. But the wine will be drunk, and nothing will remain of your gift but a delicious memory. It’s a completely different matter if the gift is in a beautiful box, decorated with your own hands, which will be remembered as the most extraordinary and original gift!

In this step-by-step photo master class you will see how to decoupage a wine box using simple and affordable materials.

What we need:

  • wooden blank
  • white artistic primer
  • acrylic paints
  • candle
  • decoupage napkin
  • PVA glue
  • skins, rags.

We cover the workpiece with acrylic artistic primer.

We glue the napkin onto the sides of the box and onto the round plywood overlays using the file method - place the picture face down on the file, pour some water, carefully stretch the folds, coat the surface with PVA glue and transfer the napkin with the file up to the surface to be decorated.

It is important that the top edge of the napkin is not cut, but torn out. This will make it easier to hide the border of the napkin when painting with paints.

After drying, trim off the excess paper by sanding with coarse sandpaper.

We paint over the areas where there will be abrasions with dark brown or black. We dry and rub these places with a candle.

Let's start painting. If you are sure that you will not stain the napkin when painting, then it is better to protect it with one layer of acrylic varnish.

While the varnish is drying, mix the necessary colors, similar in tone to the picture on the napkin. Using a flat brush, we begin to paint the remaining part of the surface. It is convenient to tint a napkin with an oval brush. With the first layer you will never be able to exactly match the tone of the background of the picture. This is due to the fact that, firstly, many paints, especially light shades, are not opaque enough and give a translucent layer, and secondly, acrylic paints become a shade darker after drying. Wait for the painted surface to dry and, if necessary, adjust the tone on the palette by adding cold or warm shades. Repeat the drawing again.

We decided to paint the slats in more contrasting colors that are present in the picture - dark brown and olive.

Let's use a simple aging technique.

After drying, wipe off the paint on some areas of the slats with a damp cloth. This technique will give the effect of light abrasions.

And on the side parts of the workpiece, using a palette knife or rough sandpaper, remove the paint under which the candle was rubbed.

Add a splash of contrasting color and dry. We cover the finished work with acrylic varnish.

This is the wooden box in the Provence style that Ella made at our pre-New Year handicraft meeting. It can be used not only to store a bottle of wine, but also to decorate the interior of your kitchen or to store, for example, a bottle of olive oil.

Thank you, dear readers, for your attention, new creative ideas and implementations!

Today I will make a box for a bottle, although this is not its only use. It would be possible to put a flower in a pot there, for example.

I sawed and sanded all the components of our box. On top is a strip, bought ready-made at a hardware store, its length was 2.5 m (I just sawed it into the parts I needed).

Using a screwdriver and cylinder saws, I cut out circular holes. This is for the handle of our box. By the way, there she (the stalk) lies on the right.

The handle was sawed off to the required length and directly hammered, with force, it was driven into the side walls of the box.

So far this is the frame. I nailed the bottom to the sides with small nails, size 1.2 * 20.

I glued the slats to the front and back of the box.

Then under the press. This way the glue will set faster and better.

When the glue has set, I begin to sand the entire box, and where there are sharp corners, I round them off. Here, on the left it hasn’t been sanded yet, but on the right the surface has already been sanded.

The oak-colored stain has been with me since the time of the chair I made.

I start applying the stain with a brush. First inside, then outside.

I covered it with stain twice. Between times 1 and 2 I waited for about an hour.

My decoupage cards. I bought two identical ones. I will glue the same pattern on both sides of the box.

I cut and adjust to size.

The top of the card was torn off a little so that there was no direct transition between the paper and the wood. I apply pva glue directly to the card. Unlike rice paper, these cards are thicker.

I glue the cards.

I remove the edges of the card using sandpaper.

Here I showed how the card goes beyond the edges.

And what does this place look like after sanding?
I also went over the map itself a little with sandpaper to make the picture look a little older.

All edges of the box were thoroughly rubbed with sandpaper.
This is BEFORE the skin.

This is AFTER sanding.

Yesterday, on occasion, I also purchased a matte varnish. I've been eyeing it for a while now and decided to go for it.

Immediately after application it, of course, shines, but then the shine goes away.

Here's a box.

How to turn nondescript wooden blanks, boxes and drawers into real works of decorative and applied art, interior decoration and unforgettable gifts? The decoupage technique can help with this, with which we suggest you design a gift box for a wine bottle. Having mastered the basics of decoupage techniques on wood, you can decorate any box, decorative box or stand to suit your taste.

Tools and materials for decoupage

  • wooden blank (you can make it yourself or buy a ready-made one at any craft store)
  • acrylic paints: black and brown
  • acrylic varnish matte
  • bitumen varnish (can be replaced with dark brown acrylic paint)
  • stencil
  • sackcloth
  • PVA glue or “Moment joiner”
  • brushes
  • foam sponge
  • scissors

Decorative boxes using decoupage technique

In a glass, dilute black and brown paint with water until “dirty water” forms; this solution will serve as a stain.

We paint the wooden blank with this solution.

Leave to dry until completely dry.

We apply a pre-selected or self-made stencil and apply the design with a foam sponge.

Leave to dry.

We wet the sponge in bitumen varnish (can be replaced with dark brown paint) and blot a sheet of paper, removing excess.

Then, with light movements, we go over all the corners and edges of our workpiece to give the effect of antiquity.

Dry the workpiece well. The bitumen may stick a little, this is not a problem, since we will then cover it with acrylic varnish.

We cover the box with acrylic varnish.

Let's move on to the interior decoration. Cut the pieces of burlap to the required size.

Lubricate the surface with PVA glue or any other glue for woodworking.

We apply burlap. You need to straighten it on the surface and make sure that at the joints it is in close contact with the edge of the box.

Let it dry, after drying the glue will become transparent and will not be visible. The internal and external parts of our wine box are completed, you can safely admire the finished work and select a worthy filling for the gift case!
